Transitions Online
Changes in post-communist societies

Transitions Online (TOL) is the one journalistic source that takes advantage of the capabilities of the Internet to provide frequently updated high-quality analysis from local reporters in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and the former Soviet Union, while retaining a region-wide focus and thematic structure of a magazine. Spotlighting overlooked perspectives, TOL posts reports on a wide range of issues and events several times a week.
True to the mission of its print predecessor, Transitions, TOL fuels policy debate in both the East and the West, while providing up-and-coming journalists from all 27 post-communist countries with valuable training as well as international exposure. The result is articles with in-depth, on-the-ground analyses and unique perspectives on the vital issues affecting the post-communist world.
TOL also shows how the Internet can be used to simultaneously strengthen independent journalism and bolster the self-sufficiency of media and nonprofit organizations in post-communist countries. We and our sponsors view TOL as a model demonstrating to other media and nonprofit entities how to sell some of their services and create new revenue streams, thereby increasing their independence through the Internet's global reach.
